The subtle alchemy of top-level chess and fancy social events!

With a top 10 seeds average rating of 2726 in 2020, the Gibraltar International Chess Festival offers a great opportunity for players to meet chess stars in an open event.

Year after year, the cosy atmosphere and variety of social events offered both at the Caleta Hotel and online helped building up a solid reputation for the festival. Gibchess is a world leading event, several time winner of the ACP’s Best Open in the World contest.

The festival has been more and more attractive to women players, reaching 65 female participants in the Masters 2020 with an average rating above 2300!

As a symbolic illustration of the tremendous women field at the festival, remember the historical edition 2012, when the 17 year old Hou Yifan, Woman World Champion, first won against chess legend Judit Polar and then tied for first with Nigel Short, reaching the play offs with 8/10.
