Our vision is that professional Chess Arbiters should strive for excellence in their role, to bring the highest added value to the events they run; and to foster their growth and success. That first means professional excellence as an arbiter. In addition, skills and experiences from other fields will bring the personal touch which makes the difference!
To better illustrate our personal touch and the diversity of our experiences and contributions in chess events, we devised a Chess Event Contribution Profile. Events and assignments described in the business lounge are evaluated on 5 criteria as described below. This mix of event-related elements and personal skills involved provides an ID picture at a glance.
Line-up
Display: The strength of the tournament’s line-up vs the World’s Top 10 average rating.
Interpretation: 50% represents an average of 1900 for the top 10 players in the tournament, IM level would be 80%.
Structure & complexity
Display: The size and complexity of the tournament, based on the number of participants, the tightness of the schedule and the number activities/teams to supervise.
Interpretation: A 6-round weekend tournament with 150-200 participants would be 30%; the World Rapid and Blitz Championship would be 85%.
Operations & Administration
Display: The level of contribution in the administration and process optimisation for the event.
Interpretation: Being a match arbiter would be 10%; implementing a registration and check-in process for the tournament would be 80%.
Creativity and Innovation
Display: The level of contribution in innovative features and development for the event.
Interpretation: Being a match arbiter would be 10%; introducing a fancy social event into the tournament would be 80%.
Leadership and hosting
Display: The level of contribution as a host or leader for the event.
Interpretation: Being a match arbiter would be 10%; hosting ceremonies and official speeches would be 70%.
